A few years ago, Bryan & Catherine decided to make a big move from NYC to Columbus. They knew that renting an expensive small apartment and dealing with crowded subways everyday was not going to work forever. They wanted to start creating something for themselves, and although they didn’t know exactly what that something was at the time, they knew NYC wasn’t the place for it. They decided on Columbus because Bryan grew up here, and they were intrigued by all of the development going on in the downtown area. They drove through many of the neighborhoods and admired the old houses, most of which were built in the early 1900s, and started dreaming about the things they could do here.
They purchased their first home in the Italian Village/Short North area. It was a single family home built in 1920 that had been remodeled in the 90s. They started a blog called Beginning in the Middle to document their projects so that friends and family could follow along despite geographical distance. They got their hands dirty with lots of DIY projects and small improvements, and through that process realized they loved working together. Since finishing their first home, they’ve purchased and renovated half a dozen homes, helped clients remodel their homes, and have recently started offering design services.
